Volunteer Terms of Service

Plain-Language Summary (This Box Does Not Replace the Full Terms Below) You must be at least 13 to use this app. If you're under 18, your parent or guardian must agree to these terms. When you take photos of items, those photos are sent to an AI system to generate a pricing suggestion. They are NOT automatically kept by TrueTag. Image Contribution (Optional): You can choose to opt in to our Image Contribution Program. If you opt in, photos you take that pass our automated content filters (which screen out faces, nudity, non-clothing items, and illegal content) are stored by TrueTag and become TrueTag's property. We also store the AI-generated item category and any correction you provide. These are used for product development and other lawful purposes, which may include building AI models. Note: TrueTag's current pricing AI is not trained on contributed images. You can turn this off in settings at any time. Your store manager can see your activity. If you opt in to Image Contribution, they can also see your contributed photos. The prices TrueTag suggests are just suggestions --- your store decides the final price. You must only photograph items your store owns. Do not photograph people. The app also reads a device identifier from your phone (set by your operating system) to help verify your login. It is not used for advertising.

These Volunteer Terms of Service ("Agreement") are a binding contract between you, the Volunteer user of the TrueTag mobile application ("Volunteer," "you," or "your"), and Quilt Thrift Optimization LLC, doing business as TrueTag ("Company," "we," "us," or "our"). By checking the age confirmation box and using the app, you --- or, if you are under 18, your parent or legal guardian on your behalf --- agree to these terms.

If you do not agree, do not use the TrueTag app.

1. About TrueTag

TrueTag is an AI-powered pricing tool for thrift stores. You use the TrueTag mobile app to take photos of items and receive a suggested price. Operated by:

2. Age Requirement

You must be at least 13 years old to use the TrueTag app. Before you can access the app, you must confirm via an on-screen checkbox that you are 13 or older. If you indicate that you are under 13, you will not be permitted to use the app.

If you are between 13 and 17 years old, your store's Manager is responsible for ensuring that a parent or legal guardian has consented to your use of the app. If you are a parent and your child is using TrueTag without your consent, contact truetagforthrift@gmail.com.

3. Accessing the App

Volunteer accounts are accessed using:

Your first name or a display name of your choice
The Store PIN issued by your Manager

We do not collect your email address, last name, date of birth, or phone number. The Store PIN is a shared credential issued and managed by your Manager — it is used by all authorized Volunteers at your store. You are responsible for not disclosing the Store PIN to anyone outside your store's authorized volunteer group, and for not using the app under a display name that is not your own. Your Manager may reset the PIN at any time.

To further secure your session, the app automatically reads a persistent device identifier generated by your phone's operating system — the Identifier for Vendor (IDFV) on iOS, or the Android ID on Android. This identifier is used solely to verify that a login session originates from a specific device and to prevent unauthorized use of your store's PIN. It is not your advertising ID, is not shared with advertisers, and is not visible to your Manager. It is treated as personal information and is subject to the same protections and deletion rights described in the TrueTag Volunteer & Mobile App Privacy Policy.

4. What You Can Do With the App

The TrueTag app is designed for one purpose: photographing items owned or possessed by your store to receive an AI-assisted pricing suggestion. You are authorized to:

Take photographs of items your store is preparing to sell
View the pricing suggestion generated for each item
Use the app during pricing sessions supervised by or authorized by your Manager

All other uses of the app are prohibited.

5. Photos and What Happens to Them

5.1 What You Upload

When you price an item, the app captures and uploads two photos: one of the whole item and one of the brand or tag. Those photos are sent to TrueTag's servers and to a third-party AI system to generate a price suggestion.

5.2 Automated Content Filtering

Automated Content Filtering For Volunteers who have opted in to Image Contribution (see Section 5.5 below), every photograph is passed through an automated content filter before any storage decision is made. The filter rejects and discards any image that contains: (i) identifiable human faces; (ii) nudity or sexual content; (iii) content depicting illegal activity; or (iv) items that are not clothing or apparel. Only images that pass all filter criteria are stored. This technology is not perfect. To the fullest extent permitted by law, TrueTag's liability for any failure of the content filter to detect or exclude a particular image or category of content — including any claim arising from a third party whose likeness or information appears in a stored image — is limited to $100.00 USD as set forth in Section 12 of these Terms, and TrueTag expressly disclaims all liability beyond that amount. If you believe a photo containing an identifiable person or other filtered content was stored, please tell your Manager or contact truetagforthrift@gmail.com and we will review it and take appropriate action.

5.3 AI Processing

Photos are sent in real time to an external AI system (OpenRouter using the Gemma model), which analyzes each item and returns structured characteristics — such as item type, category, brand, color, condition, and other attributes that inform pricing — along with a pricing suggestion. That provider uses Zero Data Retention settings, meaning they do not keep your photos after processing. TrueTag retains both the photos and the AI-derived item characteristics on its own servers.

5.4 Push Notifications

When you first launch the app, it registers for push notifications using Expo Notifications (operated by Expo, Inc.), which generates a unique Expo Push Token for your device. TrueTag stores this token to deliver the following operational notifications to you:

A notification when a store Manager approves or rejects your access request
A forced sign-out from the pricing experience when a Manager revokes your access
A silent background notification — one you will not see — that causes the app to refresh your store's configuration data when a Manager updates it on the backend, without you needing to restart the app

These are functional notifications only. They are not marketing. They cannot be individually disabled without uninstalling the app because the app relies on them to function correctly. Expo routes notifications through Apple (APNs) on iOS and Google Firebase (FCM) on Android. Your Expo Push Token is subject to the same privacy protections and deletion rights described in the TrueTag Volunteer & Mobile App Privacy Policy.

5.5 Image Contribution Program (Optional Opt-In)

Image Storage and AI Training Require Your Opt-In TrueTag does not retain copies of your photos on its servers by default. Photos used for real-time pricing are transmitted to our third-party AI API and then discarded by TrueTag.

If you choose to opt in to the Image Contribution Program through the app's settings:

Each photo you take after opting in is passed through our automated content filter. Images containing faces, nudity or sexual content, illegal content, or items that are not clothing or apparel are automatically rejected and discarded. Only images that pass all filter criteria are stored on TrueTag's servers.

Images stored through the Program are stored with the following metadata only: (a) the name of the store or store location; (b) the AI-generated category or classification for the clothing item depicted (such as type, brand, color, and condition); and (c) any correction or alternative classification you provide to the AI-generated result. No information that identifies, relates to, or could be linked to you personally is stored with the image.

TrueTag's current real-time pricing AI is not trained on images contributed through this Program. Contributed images and their associated metadata support TrueTag's product development efforts and may be used for any lawful business purpose, including building and training proprietary AI models in the future.

Ownership: At the moment an image passes the content filter and is stored, ownership of that image and all associated metadata (including AI-generated classifications and any corrections you provide) transfers irrevocably to Quilt Thrift Optimization LLC d/b/a TrueTag. By opting in, you (or your parent or guardian on your behalf) assign and transfer all rights, title, and interest in stored images and metadata to TrueTag. TrueTag may use, reproduce, modify, and sublicense those images and metadata for any lawful purpose without further consent or compensation to you or your store.

You may withdraw your opt-in at any time through the app's settings. Withdrawal stops future image storage but does not affect images already stored and owned by TrueTag.

No payment is made to you or your store for images contributed through this Program.

Your Warranty. By opting in and contributing any image, you represent and warrant that: (i) you did not intentionally photograph any person or include any third party's personal information in the image; (ii) to the best of your knowledge the image does not contain any identifiable individual, private information, or content that would infringe any third party's rights; and (iii) you have the authority to contribute the image under these Terms. You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Quilt Thrift Optimization LLC and its officers, employees, and agents from any claim, loss, damage, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) brought by any third party arising from or related to personal information or identifying information of that third party appearing in any image you contributed through the Image Contribution Program.

6. What Your Manager Can See

Your store's Manager has access to the following information about your sessions through the TrueTag dashboard:

Your display name and login activity
How many items you priced and during which sessions
The photos you uploaded and the prices TrueTag suggested
How long your sessions lasted

Your Manager does not see your email address or any contact information, because you provide none.

7. Rules for Using the App

You agree that you will:

Only photograph items owned or possessed by your store
Not intentionally photograph people, yourself, or other volunteers
Not upload images you did not personally take during an authorized session
Not upload the same image repeatedly to inflate metrics
Not attempt to manipulate, hack, or reverse-engineer the pricing system
Not disclose the Store PIN to anyone outside your store's authorized volunteer group
Only access TrueTag through your own account. Accessing the app through another Volunteer's device or authenticated session — regardless of whether you have that Volunteer's permission — is prohibited and constitutes a violation of these Terms
Not use the app for any purpose other than pricing items for your store
Comply with all applicable laws and your store's policies
If you opt in to Image Contribution, photograph only clothing and apparel items that your store is preparing to sell, and not use the opt-in to upload any illegal, harmful, or non-clothing content

8. Pricing Suggestions Are Not Final

The prices TrueTag suggests are AI-generated estimates only. They are not professional appraisals or guarantees of value. Your store's Manager has final pricing authority. Do not mark an item at a price your Manager has not approved.

9. Intellectual Property

TrueTag and all of its software, designs, trademarks, and AI systems are owned by Quilt Thrift Optimization LLC. You receive a limited, revocable license to use the app as described in this Agreement. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, or distribute any part of the app.

As described in Section 5.5, images contributed through the Image Contribution Program, together with any associated metadata (including AI-generated classifications and corrections you provide), become the sole property of TrueTag at the time they are stored. Photos that are not stored through that Program (because you have not opted in, or because a photo did not pass the content filter) remain your property or your store's property and are not retained by TrueTag.

10. Termination

Your access to the TrueTag app may be terminated at any time by your Manager or by TrueTag. TrueTag may terminate or suspend your access immediately, without notice, if you violate this Agreement. You may stop using the app at any time by simply closing it.

11. Disclaimer

THE TRUETAG APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS." WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT PRICING SUGGESTIONS WILL BE ACCURATE, APPROPRIATE, OR USEFUL FOR YOUR STORE'S PURPOSES. YOUR USE OF THE APP IS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TRUETAG'S LIABILITY TO YOU — OR TO ANY THIRD PARTY — FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM (A) INACCURACY OF A PRICING SUGGESTION, (B) FAILURE OF THE AUTOMATED CONTENT FILTER TO DETECT OR EXCLUDE ANY IMAGE, FACE, OR PERSONAL INFORMATION, OR (C) STORAGE OR USE OF ANY IMAGE CONTRIBUTED THROUGH THE IMAGE CONTRIBUTION PROGRAM, SHALL NOT EXCEED $100.00 USD. WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. THE VOLUNTEER WARRANTY AND INDEMNIFICATION IN SECTION 5.5 ARE SEPARATE FROM AND IN ADDITION TO THIS LIMITATION.

13. Governing Law

This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Michigan. Any dispute not resolved informally will be submitted to binding arbitration under the AAA Commercial Arbitration Rules in Kent County, Michigan.

14. Privacy

Your use of the TrueTag app is also subject to the TrueTag Volunteer & Mobile App Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into this Agreement by reference. Please read it --- it explains in plain language exactly what we collect and how we use it.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the app and to your store's Manager. Continued use of the app after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.
